Dangers of Using Vape

Florida International University psychologists Elisa Trucco and Matthew Sutherland competed to find answers about the effects of e-cigarettes or vapes on teenagers’ brains.

Calls to the FIU Center for Children and Families have increased because of parents who are concerned about the side effects of vape.

Trucco and Sutherland led one of the first studies to examine the decision making related to vaping tool.

The use of e-cigarettes or vaping among teenagers has increased rapidly in recent years. According to general surgeons, vaping among school students has increased by 900 percent from 2011 to 2015.

These experts are now struggling to find effective ways to prevent vaping and educating misinformed teens and their parents about the dangers of electric cigarette use which is called as an epidemic by FDA.

Teen Vaping

Teenagers are most susceptible to the bad effects of nicotine because their brains are still growing rapidly, according to Trucco and Sutherland.

Research is very important to help doctors improve prevention program and help policy makers in deciding how to continue to manage these products, they said.

Their current project – Antecedents and Consequences of the Electronics Nicotine Delivery System (ACE) – is funded by the National Institutes of Health as part of the collaborative research between the FIU Center for Children and Families with minority institutions.

They are studying what influences the decisions of teenagers to use or not to use vape, vaping tools, or other electronic nicotine systems delivery and how that decision can affect other risky behaviors that affect the developing brain.

While Trucco and Sutherland are currently recruiting participants for this study, the following are some facts about the dangers of vape:

Most Vape Contains Nicotine, A Very Addictive Drug

Most vape types, including the most popular JUUL brand, contain nicotine which is the same addictive substance found in traditional tobacco cigarettes.

One JUUL contains approximately the same amount of nicotine found in 20 cigarette sticks (or one pack).

Nicotine is very addictive and can cause brain changes that lead to compulsive use of e-cigarettes.

The Long-Term Effects of Vaping Are Unknown

Although vape is made to help adult smokers reduce their use tobacco and to provide alternatives that are “healthier”, there are no studies that have provided information about the long-term effects of vape use.

Due to the rapid increase in vape usage recently, the initial findings it is now shown that there are negative effects on associated heart and lung function with the use of vape.

However, there is still no definitive answer whether this risk is bigger than traditional tobacco smoking.

Vaping leads to greater chance of smoking in adolescents

Teen vape users actually have a higher risk of smoking tobacco compared to non-users. More than 30 percent of teen vape users start smoking traditional tobacco cigarettes within six months.

Vaping can produce side effects

Vape does not produce smoke, it is not dangerous to inhale the vapors. However vape aerosols contain many hazardous chemicals, including lead and other metals.

Vape also has artificial flavoring which includes diacetyl that has been linked to lung disease. Used vapors can also contain nicotine, which if inhaled by passive users can increase the risk of becoming nicotine.

There is also the danger of hand exposure, which occurs when nicotine residues from used vapors remain on the surface and are absorbed through accidental consumption or through skin through contact.

The article above is a review of the dangers of vape, it can be concluded that it does not mean smoking vape becomes a solution to be healthy. The choice is in your hand!
