In an average unlit cigarette, there is usually between 0.65 and 1 gram of tobacco, which means that the nicotine amount will be around 7.5 to 13.4 milligram nicotine.
Take a Marlboro red for example. In one stick of Marlboro red cigarette, there is 10.9 milligram nicotine and the average amount of nicotine in other brands is 10.2 milligram per cigarette.
Yet, if you think that is the amount of nicotine that enters your body you are wrong. Not all of nicotine contained in cigarette is absorbed by your body.
Prof. Bernd Mayer, an expert of nicotine from the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Karl-Franzens University Graz (Austria) said that when smoking, the amount of nicotine absorbed by body is usually 2 milligram instead of 10 milligram.
