Winston is an American brand of cigarettes, currently owned and manufactured by ITG Brands, subsidiary of Imperial Tobacco in the United States and by Japan Tobacco outside the U.S. The brand is named after the town where R. J. Reynolds started his business which is Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
As of 2017, Winston has the seven-highest U.S. market share (2 percent) of all cigarette brands, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Maxwell Report. This market share has been falling since 2003, when it peaked at 3.92 percent.
This brand is produced by R.J Reynolds Tobacco Company. This is the same manufacturer that made the well known Camel cigarettes. This brand was called after the region of its production which is Winston – Salem North Carolina in the United States of America.
These days it is one of the top-selling cigarette brands in the United States. The advertising of Winston was very triumphant thanks to which it continued to occupy the first position from 1966 to 1972. Due to its outstanding quality and great taste Winston is the most favorite cigarette brand of many smokers.
The famous advertising slogan for this brand is “Winston tastes good like a cigarette should”. It is a long-lasting slogan that showed up in newspapers, magazines, radio, and TV advertisements for Winston cigarettes from the brand’s launch in 1954 until 1972. Within the campaign’s long run in the mass media, lots of criticized the slogan as grammatically wrong and that it must state as, “Winston tastes good as a cigarette should.”
TG Brands is launching a new entry to the premium cigarette category with the August debut of Winston Black, the newest edition of the Winston brand.
The packaging, which features an embossed texture and a sleek honeycomb pattern, is designed to make Winston Black a standout, according to the company.
Winston Black will be available in king size and 100s in a cork filter tip.
“Winston Black creates a new point of entry for competitive adult smokers to discover, or rediscover, the brand,” Graves said, noting that the product and packaging have generated “great buzz” inside the company.
ITG Brands expects to see positive momentum for Winston Black as consumer awareness rises due to retail signage, direct mail, website information, and emails. The Winston brand has grown across the United States since ITG began selling it in 2015, the company reported.
Greensboro, N.C.-based ITG Brands LLC is the third-largest tobacco company in the U.S. whose portfolio of brands includes Winston, Kool, Salem, Maverick and USA Gold cigarettes; Dutch Masters, Backwoods and Phillies cigars; and blu eCigs electronic cigarettes.
Winston Black have a shorter filter, bolder taste and darker than the Winston Reds. It also uses dark tobacco making it bolder.
